Brief

These clients had been looking for a while for someone to renovate their kitchen.  They were after a business that fit their style and values.  Seeking a renovation that had minimal impact on the environment using materials such as plywood and other sustainable products.  Other top priorities were a beautiful and functional space with clean lines’ and a matte, rather than gloss look.  From a functional perspective; a desire to maximise storage space and a breakfast bar for 4 people and powerpoints for  devices.  And seeking a ‘warm, organic, uncluttered look that’s easy to clean’.

Outcome

This solid timber kitchen is both a welcoming space to cook and gather as a family and a functional area to prepare meals and store food.  Featuring a plethora of drawers and extended bench space; there is a place for everything and everything has its place.

The plywood and Tasmanian Oak create a warm, soulful space whilst also providing great stability and durability.  This kitchen will last for many, many years from a functional, durability and style perspective.  The materials are solid and put together with finger jointed drawers and furniture making techniques fulfilling the brief for sustainable materials and minimal impact on the environment.

The black matte glass in the doors and drawer fronts adds a lovely contrast to the timbers.  The vibrant mixed reds of the breakfast bar bench top creates an inviting space to gather in the kitchen.  Timber bench tops creates warm and a touch of softness to their surface.  Finished with a hardwax oil, the timber bench top is easily maintainable over time.

The second bench top is Dekton; surrounding the sink area and cooktop.  Dekton is as bomb proof as it can get and is a bit like a large tile.

The cooktop is a downdraft cooktop, meaning there is no need for an external rangehood.

Timber shelves across the corner windows create light filled space for kitchen plants to grow and thrive.
