Brief:
To design and build a contemporary kitchen using solid recycled timber, that was NOT colonial in style, with a Rennie Mackintosh theme that is functional, provides adequate storage space for the client’s needs and is practical for a person with arthritis and mobility issues.

Result:

After researching Rennie Mackintosh, the feature doors were designed with two vertical strips of recycled Tasmanian Oak down the middle of door with a purple heart circle overlapping the ash timber strips in the top third of the door and backed with a white spectrum glass. This design worked in well with the feature tiles that had already been chosen.

The solid timber doors are a contemporary design exclusive to Select Custom Joinery that allow for the timber movement, whilst removing the “Colonial” look which is so often associated with solid timber doors.

The drawer fronts and solid timber doors were made from recycled blackbutt and were built to match the natually occurring change in colour of the blackbutt across the bottom of the bank of drawers so the colours are uniform across the entire bank, rather than being randomly put together.

Soft close drawer runners for solid timber ensure the drawers open and close smoothly and easily.

Materials:

  • Recycled Blackbutt
  • Recycled Tasmanian Oak
  • Purple Heart
  • Plantation Hoop Pine
  • Steel Grey Granite Benchtop
  • Spectrum Glass.
