Brief:
As part of wider refurbishments of a sustainably built home, to advise, manufacture and supply a new kitchen from sustainable materials, working in a large space. The house, originally built as a display house for an architect as a showcase for sustainable design principles, features a large kitchen/living area. Whilst we received initial design concepts, many elements changed in the process.
Result:
The overall look and feel for this kitchen was minimalist and contemporary, using sustainable materials. Whilst the clients had an initial preference for a plywood kitchen, the result included plywood for the internal cabinetry and natural bamboo for the doors and drawers.
The island provides a combination of breakfast bar seating, bench area and drawer and cupboard storage.
A combination of drawers and cupboards provide a large amount of easy to access storage for the bins, recycling, plates and bowls, pots and pans and other kitchen items.
Stainless steel backed finger pulls for the doors and drawers create both a seamless and functional design and a timber veneer provides a slight colour contrast for the first panel under the bench.
Coffee strand bamboo frames the kitchen windows.
Obscured glass doors with shaped redgum handles partially hide the pantry – a combination of drawers and glass shelves.
Folding doors hide the spacious appliance cupboard, with room for the toaster, coffee machine and kettle, along with frequently used cups, saucers and mugs and glasses.
