Brief:
To advise, design, manufacture and install on the kitchen and interior joinery for a custom built sustainable home on a rural property with irregular angles designed into the structure of the house. Quality work, sustainable materials and blending a Japanese feel into an Australian bush home were important priorities for these clients.
Result:
A combination of bamboo, timber, stainless steel and glass work together to create Japanese/Australian feel in this kitchen. The salvaged redgum benchtop is the centerpiece of the kitchen and manufactured from a slab we purchased from a local property a few years ago. Our clients liked the idea of leaving on the natural edge to bring the bush inside, so the natural edge was kept on the right hand and the edge finished on the breakfast bar side, so people sitting at the bench have a smooth edge.
The custom made stainless steel bench incorporates the sink, so the only joins are where the cooktop has been inserted. Stainless steel provides a very practical, durable surface in a kitchen.
The timber and glass sliding doors on the right hand side of the kitchen hide the walk-in pantry and charging device station. The small cupboards in the pantry area with power points were designed to hold the chargers for the household devices – phones, tablets etc.
A custom made towel rail, bamboo cutlery dividers and bamboo spice holders complete the kitchen.
The interior fit-out also consisted of the tetris bookshelves and concrete and bamboo vanity units and a concrete bath hob.
